In today’s highly competitive digital age, consumer choices are influenced not only by the products themselves but also by the interaction and reputation between brands and consumers. Threads, as an emerging social media platform, is gradually becoming an important bridge for communication between brands and consumers.

What is Threads?

Threads is a social media platform launched by Meta (formerly Facebook) in 2023, aimed at competing with Twitter. As Twitter underwent multiple changes and policy adjustments, the market’s demand for a new social media platform gradually grew. The launch of Threads filled this gap, offering a new choice.

In 2024, Taiwan became the second-largest user base for Threads globally. This can be traced back to the 2024 presidential election, when many political figures began creating Threads accounts and interacting with young people on the platform. This not only attracted considerable traffic but also encouraged many young people who had never used Threads before to sign up just to join the conversation. This shows that Threads’ influence in Taiwan is not to be underestimated.

Why has Threads quickly attracted a large user base?

  • Platform integration: Threads is seamlessly integrated with Instagram. No extra account registration is needed, allowing users to easily transition from Instagram to Threads while using their existing social networks and content. It is more convenient to use, and gossip and real-time news spread quickly on the platform. Everyone can find topics of interest, which has made Threads popular in the Taiwanese market.
  • Instant and simple interaction: With a simple and intuitive interface design, it is easy to use and meets modern users’ needs for fast message exchange.
  • Novelty factor: Social platforms constantly roll out new features, and user curiosity is a major factor. It easily attracts people who love trying new things. Using a new platform also carries a symbolic meaning of “keeping up with the trend.”
  • More authentic than Instagram: Compared with Instagram’s photo- and video-centric presentation, which often requires polished and edited content, Threads is more authentic and straightforward. You can simply type any thoughts you want to share and post instantly, without going through the process of selecting and editing photos.
